MAŠELA A BADIMO
MAŠELA A BADIMO
A re lotšheng ditlogolo tsa badimo.
Better understanding mašela a badimo.
As we know there are different types of mašela which includes, but not limited to:
• Tau (iBhubhesi/ Lion),
• Letšatši (iLanga/ Sun),
• Nkwe (iNgwe/ Leopard)
• Kgaka (iMpangela/ Guinea fowl)
• Njeti
• Palo
But what do they really mean to a person and what do they symbolize? Mašela represent the ancestors we carry, they shed light on the type of ancestors we have and different ways we can communicate with them.
Every now and then go to the mountain or open field and connect with your ancestors. Njeti le Palo are associated with badimo ba Ndiki le Mndawu which are water spirits and those that passed away outside of home it may be due to accidents or wars in the olden days so to connect more with them you should visit the river and mountains and lastly Letšatši symbolises rebirth and renewal, it means that darkness must end and the light must shine in whatever you do.
Mašela come in different colors too:
White - New initiates (mathwasana).
Red - Mathwasana/ initiates who are about to graduate and become spiritual healers.
Blue - Basebeletsi/ izithunywa/ seporofeta/ prophets
Black - Gobela, spiritual healer responsible for training initiates (mathwasana)
Mašego are not only meant for spiritual healers, we all have ancestors that carry us through and so to better connect with them you can buy yourself ibhayi. Whichever one you love is for your ancestors, you must remember that these are ancestral cloths so if you happen to be reading this and have always wondered why you like a certain lešela just know it's not you but the spirit within you and those that carry you.
PUSH - Pathla Until Something Happens.
