Each and every person in the spirit world has essentially FOUR clans. These are:

Maternal clan (ga bo mama)

Maternal Grandmother's Clan (ga bo ntatemogolo mmelega mama)

Paternal Clan (ga bo papa)

Paternal Grandmother's clan (ga bo koko mmelega papa)

I'm sure there are many ways to phathla, however this is what has worked for me. Some of you will argue, but that's okay. This is my suggestion.

YOU WILL NEED:

• Impepho, Snuff/ motsoko wa thaba

• Water in an enamel mug

• Alcohol (spirits, byala ba Sesotho, wine, beer, cider)

• Candles

• Silver coin(s)

Call upon the 4 clans. whether those on earth rejected or abandoned you. Spiritually they have a say and can get to you to frustrate your life if not appeased. So you must call them ALL.

1. Call all of them

2. Introduce yourself 

3. Ask them to unite over you, in peace and good accord. 

4. Make your request, dont not focus your energies on hurting others. Focus alignment, upliftment and improving your life. 

Best time phathla is 6pm (as the sun sets), midnight Or 3 hourly intervals (3am, 6am, 9am etc).

Where you phahla is equally as important. Indoors best choose a corner in your house with less foot traffic and noise. Preferrably in a room no one engage in sexual intercourse in. And face east. Outdoors use msamo if you dont have one get a spiritual healer to assist to making one for you.

If you have no sacred ancestoral space, you can take your phahla items to an open field, river bank, ocean bank.

Phahla, pray then meditate; why?

- Phahla to call them and state your case

- Pray to help them elevate your requests to God

- Meditate to listen for answers

Always have the 4 elements when you phahla, take off your shoes and dont blow-out your candles when you are done, wet your finger and pinch the wick.
